Lady Liberty Sings

Where Lady Liberty Sings, humanity ascends.

Liberty – exercising free will (within moral reason) to do what I please, as I please, when I please, in plain view of Lady Justice – inspires humanity; lifts us up and provides meaning to life. Vital is the nurturing gaze of Lady Justice, for without justice there can be no liberty. In turn, without liberty, there can be no justice. ‘No Justice, no peace’ seemingly goes the world at large today.

Liberty is saving us today. Witness the horrific global Covid-19 lost soul count, over 2.7 million deaths (or .0349% of today’s world population). The 1918 global pandemic witnessed 32 million deaths (or 1.7778% of the global population at that time). 1918 communication technologies consisted of the telegraph, horse, donkey, ship or car carrying news of the invisible killer virus coming to your neighborhood block. However, today, we do not have an additional 135 million lost souls our 1918 morbidity numbers would have produced. Why not? Liberty.

Liberty constructs an inviolate workshop for people of unconventional thinking to assemble, toil and breakthrough so many human barriers over centuries. Compare, for example, the communication technology barriers of the 1900s to two modern day exemplars of liberty at work: college dropouts who created two of the world’s most amazing experiences ever. Bill Gates and Steven Jobs created MS-DOS and Apple, respectively. Without Lady Liberty, power inevitably limits innovation and development. 103 years after the 1918 pandemic, Lady Liberty’s workshop created the information technology age of communications, saving over 135 million lives in the 2020-21 pandemic. Might this statement of historical record and causal analysis ring true for you?

No one can look inside your mind, not even the ever-present security cameras or facial recognition software, like we see today in Myanmar. The Framework of Justice protecting the Workshop of Liberty is a masterpiece of collaborative human creation. When our leaders get it right, unleashed is a human force elevating, transforming, integrating ideas, making and saving lives. About 135 million lives in this particular example. Lady Liberty relies on the contrarians of our world. Without liberty, unconventional and new are frequently obliterated as wrong and a threat to the establishment – the same establishment who made the laws, perhaps, far afield from Lady Justice. Lady Liberty enabled the world’s transformation from the industrial age to the information age, creating a more sustainable platform for the world’s growing population. When our leaders empower Lady Liberty by embracing Lady Justice, humanity sings a sweet song, indeed.

Iraq – Lady Liberty Sings in the voice of Ayat Rawthan, a petrochemical engineer, who is “eschewing the traditional role of women in the oil industry and taking up the grueling work of drilling”, according to the Associated Press. How is this possible? Perhaps a fair chance afforded only by liberties based on justice allowed Ms. Rawthan the fair shot at a university education in Iraq. Not on her family connections, wealth, power or history. She won admittance on her own individual merit, graduating in the top 5% of her 2018 class from Basra University. Ms. Rawthan is now carving her own path with foreign drilling companies in an Iraqi man’s oil world. Credit to Ms. Rawthan, absolutely, but don’t forget about her Iraqi Sister, Lady Liberty (and her workshop protected by enough Lady Justice to make Ayat’s life possible). How many more Ms. Rawthan’s reside in Iraq, a country of 40 million citizens?

China – Xiaomi, blacklisted in the United States, is taking it to the U.S. Government in the arena where all 21st century disputes are won and lost: in court of law, determined by justice and merit. Based on property rights, equality and justice, the U.S. government must respect the rights and liberties of its citizenry. This includes not only citizens, but entities and all U.S. companies, whether owned and operated domestically or internationally. A China-run company operating in the U.S. is equal in every respect to every other U.S. company and government entity. According to U.S. District Judge Contreras, even U.S. Presidents and the Department of Defense are in service to Lady Justice and Lady Liberty. China’s 1.4 billion citizens and international companies can count on Lady Justice ensuring their ability to act aggressively or litigate in defense of one’s own international liberties. Just ask Judge Contreras.

United Kingdom – 68 million citizens - Sir Richard Branson, a boyhood misfit who hated school, famously started the Virgin brand and has rocketed from his living room couch to the Moon, figuratively and literally. Whatever your view, admire for a moment Mr. Branson exercising his liberty to drive the eradication of capital punishment (thanks to Ms. Celia Ouellette, founder of Responsible Business Initiative for Justice). Perhaps a species that condemns murder should do just that. Wake up, start a movement eradicating global capital murder, thereby saving and making innocent lives everywhere; a sweet Song of Lady of Liberty indeed.

Lady Liberty (Latin: Libertas) is an allegorical personification of the inalienable human right to self-determination. Her attributes are a crown, robe and flame lit torch of enlightenment.
